Donating

What happens to my donation?

Your gift buys food, medication and medical supplies for animals in need. It pays for medical costs such as treatments and life-saving surgery, funds neutering and spaying projects that tackle the stray animal problem, and covers transport so that supplies reach the places where they are needed most. All medical care is provided through licensed veterinarians.

How much of my donation actually reaches the cause?

We aim for 100%. Payment providers charge transaction fees on online payments: we lose almost 5% on every online gift, which is why you can choose to cover those fees yourself. A bank transfer to BE88 0019 3976 1641 costs us nothing.

Will I receive a tax certificate?

No. Sanco Foundation cannot issue Belgian tax certificates (fiscaal attest) at this time, so your gift is not tax-deductible. For every online gift you do receive a payment receipt by email.

How can I pay?

Online you can pay with Bancontact, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, iDEAL | Wero or SEPA direct debit. You can also make a bank transfer to BE88 0019 3976 1641 (BIC GEBABEBB) in the name of Sanco Foundation, with the reference “Gift”.

Is it safe to donate online?

Yes. Online gifts are processed through Donorbox, a donation platform for non-profit organisations. Payments are handled by established payment providers such as Stripe and PayPal over a secure connection. Sanco never sees or stores your card details.

Can I change or cancel my monthly gift?

Yes, at any time. For monthly gifts Donorbox automatically creates an account for you and emails you the login details. Use it to change the amount or stop your gift. Prefer not to do it online? Email donaties@sanco.org and we will take care of it.

Businesses and legacies

Can my company donate?

Absolutely. Your company can make a one-off or recurring gift through the business donation form or by bank transfer to BE88 0019 3976 1641. Donations in kind, such as food, supplies or medical supplies, are very welcome too.

Does my company receive an invoice or tax certificate for a gift?

No. A gift is a donation, so there is no invoice, and Sanco cannot issue Belgian tax certificates at this time. Your company does receive a payment receipt for the gift. For questions about how to book it, please check with your accountant.

Can I include Sanco in my will?

Yes. You can include Sanco Foundation vzw (company number 0792.367.066) in your will through a universal legacy, a legacy by universal title or a specific legacy. We recommend discussing this with a notary. Read more on our legacy giving page.

Food, supplies and medication

Which food and supplies can I donate?

Unopened or properly resealed dry and wet food, treats and chews, and supplies in good condition: beds, blankets (fleece preferred), litter trays and cat litter, leads, harnesses, food and water bowls, toys, scratching posts, crates and grooming supplies. We always urgently need dry cat food. See the full list.

How do I offer food or supplies?

Email donaties@sanco.org with what you would like to donate and how much, ideally with photos. We prefer larger quantities. Only have a small amount? Get in touch anyway: there may be a volunteer near you where you can drop it off.

Can I donate medication, even if it has expired?

Veterinary medication, flea and tick treatments, dewormers and medical supplies are very welcome. We accept unopened medication up to two years past its expiry date, but not opened liquid medication that has expired. Everything is assessed and used by licensed veterinarians.

Getting involved and about Sanco

Who is Sanco Foundation?

Sanco Foundation is a Belgian non-profit association (vzw), founded on 12 October 2022 and based in Tremelo (Flemish Brabant), with company number 0792.367.066. Its chair is a licensed Belgian veterinarian. We collect money, food, supplies and medication and make sure they reach animals that need them most, in Belgium and abroad.

Do you only help animals in Belgium?

No. Sanco makes no distinction between Belgium and abroad: we always look at where the need is greatest at that moment. We support shelters and animal welfare organisations in Belgium and abroad, including by transporting relief supplies and sending veterinarians into the field.

How do I become a volunteer?

Email info@sanco.org and tell us how you would like to help: collecting donations, fundraisers and events, raising funds or putting your own skills to work. We will then get in touch. More on our volunteering page.

I am a veterinarian. How can I help?

By donating surplus medication, food or medical supplies, or by helping hands-on at shelters and neutering and spaying projects abroad. We are happy to put you in touch with organisations on the ground. For any veterinary procedure we always draw up a written agreement. Read more for veterinarians.

How do I contact Sanco?

Email info@sanco.org for general questions or donaties@sanco.org for questions about donations, supplies and businesses. All our details are on the contact page.
